The birth of a child is an absolutely amazing event; one that shouldn't be missed. In my work as a student midwife, I have seen the mother working harder than she has ever worked before and unfortunately, she misses the moments...they fly by in all of the concentration. And when the baby finally arrives, she is left with only the memory of the whirlwind that went all around her. This is the very reason why I decided to closely document my second birth through videography and photography, as I had unfairly relied on my midwives and husband to record our first birth (and they had a more important job to do). So many parents give a funny look when asked whether they will have their labor and birth photographed. I respond to the look with "I promise you will NOT regret it" and "you can always delete the images if you still feel this way after the birth". I do not know one family that has decided to delete images.

Up to 6 hours of homebirth photography*, includes all raw (un-enhanced) images on disk, as well as the photographers choice of images to be enhanced for printing (print fees here): $600

*Please discuss the possibility of having a photographer at your birth, with your midwives. It is not usually a good idea to compromise your relationship with your care provider by surprising her with additional visitors. Also, many births are unpredictable and can have the possibility of requiring a transfer to the hospital. Unfortunately, most hospitals do not allow photography of births, for liability reasons. In the event of a transfer, your birth will be photographed until the moment of departure to the hospital. Determination of follow up photos (baby & family, after the birth) is at the photographer's discretion.

If you wish to have your hospital birth documented, please discuss the possibility with your doctor prior to contacting Embrace the Bump.
