Six months after marrying the love of my life & graduating from the University of Texas, San Antonio, with a BA in Psychology, we began talking about having a baby. I was busting with excitement to begin the most amazing chapter of our lives! Six months later, we were pregnant. All was going great (with the exception of all-day/all-night "morning" sickness). At 24 weeks, Mark & I decided to take a tour of the hospital we would be delivering at. We were both very unimpressed. The moment we stepped into the delivery suite, I whirled around to him & said with wide eyes, “I AM NOT DELIVERING HERE!”. Something about it did not seem right. So we sought out the care of midwives (after taking a bit of time to convince him that homebirth was just as safe as hospital birth) & began planning for a homebirth. Our sweet baby, Liam was born safely & very gently, at home, two months later.

   In 2005, I joined a couple of local midwives & began an intense apprenticeship training as a midwife. During this time, Liam was joined by Aedan, also born at home, delivered by his Daddy (with the help of midwives)! After completing the requirements set forth by NARM, I received my national midwifery certification & completed the separate process of becoming a licensed as a midwife with the State of Texas. Following the receipt of my license, Mark & I delivered our last baby, at home; our first baby girl & our first waterbirth! It was unbelieveable! I will always encourage moms to birth in water!
