Embrace the Bump began in 2005 as a San Antonio, Pregnancy Art company; capturing the pregnant form with photography and belly casting. We welcomed so many amazing and always beautiful pregnant women, many of whom were planning on delivering their babies at home (as we did) or at a local birthing center. In that time Embrace the Bump, Midwifery and Doula Services were "in the works". Now, after completing an intensive internship, with several highly experienced, local midwives, and completing the certification requirements set forth by NARM and the licensing requirements set by the Texas Midwifery Board within the Department of State Health Services, the midwife/doula/artist, Monica Garza-Vickery, has brought her homebirth experiences to the families of the San Antonio area. (and continues to welcome those mommas who still want to celebrate their pregnancy, in various artistic ways)

I am totally in love with all things pregnancy and childbirth! From the age of three, I knew I wanted babies of my own and I wanted to help other women to have their babies. This job is a dream come true! The women of today have an amazing privilege of having access to all types of care for their pregnancy and birth!

The art of midwifery has been passed down through generations of women! Homebirth is increasingly becoming more popular; so to fulfill the needs and desires of the families who love to bring their babies in to the world at home, new midwives must be trained. So, from time to time, an apprentice may be brought to a birth, so they may gain the necessary experience needed to become a great midwife. Embrace the Bump welcomes “baby-midwives” Passing on on this wonderful tradition, as it was passed to me, is a privilege and an honor!

To ensure your utmost safety, in homebirth, I will call on other local midwives to assist at your birth. Additional hands at a birth are always a good thing, because the health and safety of mother and baby are my top priorities!
